#9 Create video or a series of videos to spread awareness about Fedora Diversity
Closed: Moved 6 years ago Opened 7 years ago by amsharma.

Problem ::
Through we have started diversity efforts since March, 2015, but still Fedora Diversity is considered a very new thing in its area. We need to make it more visible and spread the awareness about our goals and agendas.

Solution/Implementation ::
We can come up with nice informative short length videos, which will include diverse people already present in Fedora, Fedora Diversity Adviser, speaking quoting examples of Fedora principles etc like the show video of Red Hat. It will increase awareness in a fun way.

I can take over this task, I have a bit of experience with videos. If you're all kind enough to send me the videos and pictures you took during flock I would be quite happy!

@tatica All the pictures I have from Flock can be found here. We will hopefully have all of the recorded talks this week (or the next, at the very latest). But those likely won't be the best resolution.

mpryc also had a lot of good photos (I saw him around Flock with a good camera). His photos are all here. A few more from mleonova live here and more from bee2502 are here.

I think this would fit nicely as a topic or focus point of the diversity marketing campaign topic mentioned in our FAD planning. I think this ticket is a low priority item until then, but we can try to collect media, content, and other things from contributors to build a backlog of things for this in the meanwhile.

I would suggest to let's do some local event (FWD or other diversity focused event locally) before our FAD, so that we will have some nice, diversified captures from these events and that will be feed for the one we create during FAD.

Building a stockpile of footage in the meanwhile would be best. Whatever event planning we do before the FAD, let's keep this in back of our minds. :thumbsup:

I think we need infra help or a repo, where we can store pictures and videos. Over the period of time, we will have a nice collection and then we can work on the main video?

@jflory7 and I had some discussion about this. Before we take any concrete steps further, we need to re evaluate the scope of this project, what we want and how we will use it. Is this something immediate we plan to do before the end of this year ?

Since @tatica might not be available for a while now, who would be helping us with the video editing instead ? If this is an immediate goal, should we put out a call for help from the community ? This seems beyond scope unless we have someone with video editing skills.

What content do we want in the video ? Is it just pictures or also video snippets of community members and if we don't have it already, how will it be collected ?

If this is something we want to move forward in this year, I have a few suggestions about videos and content we could use in ticket #20

ticket#20 is about workshops and this is for "just pictures or also video snippets of community members"

if we don't have it already, how will it be collected ?-

Notes from the ticket itself-
1- I think we need infra help or a repo, where we can store pictures and videos. Over the period of time, we will have a nice collection and then we can work on the main video?

2- Building a stockpile of footage in the meanwhile would be best. Whatever event planning we do before the FAD, let's keep this in back of our minds

Ticket #20 also refers to videos with aim of creating awareness about diversity in Fedora community. I have updated it to make the idea clear.

Since we have them in Dropbox and Google Drives, why do we need a repo from fedora infra ? If we want to store it in one place, we can just merge into one Google Drive.

I agree with @bee2502, we can do it with Dropbox/Google Drive. Photos and small video clips merged with an underlying theme. Also as @amsharma, we should start building like a stockpile of footage for this video.

I have basic video editing skills, I will be happy to help with this if we have the clips!

@chhavi hey very warm welcome here :) and I am glad that you volunteered. We can use some help here. Thanks for your comment. Next step here is to gather the videos and then Chavvi can help us :)

Here is a link to folder which contain pictures to use for showcasing Diversity in Fedora : https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/0BwsneeI8snBrN3BKeUYzek1nZ28?usp=sharing

@amsharma Thank you so much :)

@bee2502 let's get this done :D

Here are some details of what the upcoming video will look like and it's purpose :

Images selected for the video are in subfolder 'FLISOL Diversity Video' in Google drive folder with all diversity related images shared above.

A design of how an image from the video will look like is attached thanks to @chhavi. The video will be a collection of such images.

@bee2502 I like a lot your idea. :)
@chhavi thanks a lot for your help

Ticket closed

To this point, the final video is uploaded and shared on the Fedora Project YouTube channel. We shared it out on social media channels to build awareness for it as well, and I've also made it the featured video on our YouTube channel for people who are visiting the channel for the first time. :smile:

As far as I am aware, the deliverable for this ticket is produced and finished. I'm going to close this ticket as completed, and we want to do something similar in the future, we can file a new ticket for a new video.

Awesome work by @chhavi and @bee2502, this is really awesome work! :tada: :100: :tada:

If @bex gives a :thumbsup: here, I can work on getting the official YouTube video updated on the Fedora Project channel. :movie_camera:

@jflory7 and let the ticket be open please as it is for series of videos, not just one video. We have good collection of pictures gathered here, we will continue putting pictures in the same drive location and will work on video for FWD and flock as well.

Thanks @chhavi for your efforts.

When will be the next video? Maybe during FLOCK we can record some videos with some participants, but in this case we need a camera to record the videos :confused:

@jonatoni Yes, I was really hoping to get some footage at FLOCK. We can use @jflory7 's camera if he doesn't mind.

With regards to the :arrow_up: above comments :arrow_up: about collecting video at Flock, please see #31:

Ticket: Flock 2017 video gathering

I'd like to avoid using Google Drive to save our materials (videos, photos), if we can migrate to an open source solution would be great. We can check other options or ask what other teams (Fedora sub-projects) use.

Btw as we have a lot of comments here can we close this one and open a separated ticket for each event?

@jonatoni I would be +1 to moving discussion to #31 for Flock and filing any new tickets for video production once we have an idea of what we want to try doing.

I am closing this ticket then and +1 to move FLOCK video discussion to #31. Once we have new ideas related to video production, we can comment a link to them on this ticket.
